SAKAWA

Sakawa deals with Internet scamming, mostly by young, poor Africans. Who are the people that try to deceive us? What human story lies behind the phenomenon of Internet fraud? In Ghana, the arrival of the Internet and electronic waste has led young men and women to practice internet fraud, with the help of voodoo to earn a living. The film follows the story of the experienced Sakawa-boy Francis who became rich and successful; the young man Samuel who is in continuous need of money; and a young mother, Ama, who is learning the tricks of the trade. Sakawa is a film that takes its viewers into the African underworld and shows at the same time that the Sakawa-boys are just people living in poverty, looking for a better life. None of them are good, none of them are bad.
